Monstrosa, Cristata & oddities
This is where we get to appreciate the wierdos. The strange plants, the mutants, the cacti that some would consider ugly or malformed. Monstrose genetics coming from a DNA mutation that can express and go dormant. Sometimes you’ll see very aggressive cresting, and other times, you may see lots of rib shifting and lack of areoles. A seemingly spineless plant like Run Amok, a severly strange plant like Myrtillocactus Glorp, a gorgeous 5 foot stand of ScopOlivia with crests and strange columns.
You may be wondering if you can appreciate such weird plants. I’m here to show you, yes. Sí Se Puede. Will you love them more than the normal growth? That’s up to you. When you get deeper into collecting sometimes finding the strange monstrose version of a plant is a rare addition to an already growing collection. I have so many myself, and I like each one of them for their differences. For me, it’s the seed grown monstrose plants that are much more rare and not in as many gardens, that we are after. I mean who doesn’t want to have a plant that only five people in the world have versus a couple thousand?
